Walmart Foundation has been involved in a lot of corporate social service activities and one among their many social programs is the funding for college students in the form of Walmart Scholarship programs.This funding program has been useful to a number of eligible and bright students, who were not able to enroll themselves in degree programs due to their poor financial condition. As the cost of higher education has been consistently on the rise for the last few years, many students are forced to take up part time jobs after completing high school and abandon their hopes of entering colleges. Walmart Foundation has given a life line to these deserving students to pursue their degree programs across the country. For the ensuing academic year, Walmart has earmarked more than $10 million for the Walmart Scholarship program.
Walmart Foundation offers two types of scholarship programs. One is a program that is targeted towards the Walmart and Sams Club associates and the second one is a scholarship program meant for the high school dependents of the associates. The Scholarship program for the Walmart associates is based on two important parameters as eligibility criteria. The associate should prove that they are actually in need of a scholarship and the second point talks about the involvement of associates in the community development related activities. Walmart Associate Scholarship is applicable to those associates who are planning to pursue certificate, associate, bachelor’s or graduate degree programs in the various universities across the country. The degree or the graduate programs has to be done in an accredited college or university. Walmart Associate Scholarship programs are actually awarded four times in a year. Associate Scholarship program actually gets launched during the months of August, November, February and May.
The scholarships are usually awarded in the months of October, January, April and July. Associates who are under the associate scholarship can also renew for the next year. This scholarship is only applicable for only one year. As the college education usually lasts 3 years or more, the associates need to renew the scholarship for the next year. Another important criteria to apply is that the associate should be either a part time or a full time employee of any of the divisions of Walmart The associate should have completed high school or equivalent. There are actually a few steps that are required to complete the associate scholarship application process. Associates should first create an online account with the online portal of the Walmart Associate Scholarship. After that, the associate has to take an eligibility test and answer a few questions, which will decide whether the associate is eligible for the scholarship or not. After finding out the eligibility, the associate has to fill up the application form that is available in this portal.
In addition to the Walmart Associate scholarship, Walmart foundation also provides Dependent Scholarship to those dependents of the Walmart Employees. This scholarship actually provides a scholarship funding of $13000 which is spread over a period of four years. The applicants should be dependents of the Walmart associates and Sams Club associates. The dependent should actually be a high school senior who is graduating from the high school. Walmart Foundation starts receiving the application forms for the Dependent scholarships from the month of January every year. They will continue to receive the application till the month of March. The application process for the dependent scholarship program follows the same route as the steps required for the Associate scholarship program.
