Siemens Competition
The Siemens Competition is an annual event that provides immense scholarship opportunities for high school seniors who are research-driven. Students compete as individuals or in teams of people, where they research topics in science, math, and technology. Consider this a giant science fair of sorts, where the top prize is a $100,000 scholarship. The competition is issued through the College Board, and it is funded by the Siemens Foundation. Together, these organizations work to encourage students to be all they can be and more. Siemens Competition Eligibility Requirements
In order to apply for the Siemens Competition, you must be a high school student in the American Samoa, United States, Guam, U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Wake and Midway Islands, or the Marianas. You must show an active interest in math, science, and technology, and you must be willing to conduct and present a thorough research project related to one of those subjects. If you can do that and provide your own materials for the project, you should be in good shape.
How to Apply
If you want to apply for the Siemens Competition, you will need to find out when the next competition is in your area. You can compete in a team of two or three people, or you could compete on your own. There are several stages of the competition, with awards available at each state. Once you compete locally, you may be chosen as one of 300 semifinalists to go through a new round of the competition. Then you can progress to regionals before entering the national finals. Every round involves a question and answer session, along with an oral presentation for your poster. If your presentation is good enough, you should qualify for scholarship money in the Siemens Competition.
