Essay Scholarships

Essay scholarships are a terrific way to reward excellent writers. There are many people out there who are not great athletes, or musicians, or artists, or have any other special talent. However, they are great writers and these scholarships recognize that aspect of their education. It is one of the many ways which students use to fund their college educations. With the cost of attending rising and most colleges being worth at least $40,000 a year, one or two scholarships may not suffice to meet one’s financial aid needs. Therefore, essay scholarships are a great way to add up some money and put it towards paying for college.

Some scholarships have requirements for applying, such as the financial situation the student is in and their GPA, thereby narrowing the criteria. Others have very particular topics which may only pertain to a certain group of students or a certain demographic. However, there are also basic essay competitions which can be won by anyone, however those are even more competitive due to the number of applications for each contest and the quality of each applicant’s essay. The key to winning any essay contest is the quality of one’s essay. That requires time and dedication, but also a certain amount of creative ability. Many students seek help from their parents, teachers, tutors or other outside influences. However this assistance must be strictly in the form of feedback and criticism; no one may write or edit parts of the students’ application essays.
